Tanger Med port check in was good and surprisingly efficient. The loading staff on the Ikarus Palace were great and the cabin was fine, but that's about all. For a journey that takes 2 days and passes through 3 countries the level of facilities on the boat were rubbish. There was no money exchange, the only currency accepted was Euros and cards were only accepted in the restaurant. This caused us some problems as we had been in Morocco for 2 months and didn't have any Euros. The advertised free Wifi was broken for the entire trip. There was no cinema or any TV's showing any English language programmes. The products available in the shop were also lacking, there were no maps, no international language books or even any guide books or games. The quality of the food in the restaurant was awful and the food was overpriced. The restraunts were continually opening and closing leading to an incessant amount of tannoy messages. None of the staff on board were freindly or particularly helpful. There seemed to be no attempt to fix the Wifi and every question was met with indifference, also no one seemed particularly bothered about the passenegers who were sleeping on the floor in all the corridors and stairwells. I dread to think what would have happened in an emergency. For €400 I would have expected better. In short the crossing was good, but avoid the Ikarus Palace (Minoan Lines, booked via Grimaldi lines) like the plague. 8.4
It was a nice trip. Good crew but breakfast can be a bit better. The meals were very good but it would be also good to cater for people who have less apitite in the evening - maybe just a sandwich and a coffe. The cabin was excellent and having a TV was great but it could have had channels in Italian or English instead of just German. 7.2
The confirmation lacked sufficient directions, so we had trouble locating the check-in terminal in Barcelona, but once we found the terminal, and the proper window within the terminal, we were processed smoothly. The cabin was in good condition, the food service was acceptable, but the shining star for the voyage was the porter staff. They were very accomodating in handling our large quantity of luggage, both boarding and disenbarking. This ferry is a worthy consideration for getting from Barcelona to Rome. 7.0
everything was good about the trip except that we arrived in malta 3hours late. Although i must say that this is the first time that happened 2.6
This trip made me never want to travel by ferry again. We boarded 3 hours late and sat motionless for another 2 hours before finally leaving. Dinner was the only good thing as the food was very enjoyable (but a bit pricey). When departing the ferry I stood for almost 2 hours in a crowd of people to go through customs (aboard the ship) even though they had called for people to come almost an hour before THAT. (Why ask people to come with their passports if they need to wait 3 more hours?) Bathrooms were a place I tried to avoid due- although the women's was much better than the men's. Because of the major delay, we arrived (actually GOT OFF the boat) at around 2 am and I was unable to check in to my previously booked B&B and had to spend the night in a 24 hour cafe until the next morning. I know several people who missed flights and other travel connections because of the delay as well. My advise-- FLY. (The one star ratings were entered because it wouldn't allow me to submit with no stars chosen.) |
