Gytheion Ferry Port Overview
Gythion is a small seaside town 30 miles south of Sparta, in the northeast part of Mani in the South of the Peloponnesse, Greece. It lies at the northwestern end of the Gulf of Laconia at the mouth of the Gythius River. On either side of the town you will find beautiful beaches and small taverns.
The people of ancient Gythium believed their city was founded by Heracles and Apollo, who frequently appear on its coins. In the modern town you will find some beautiful neo classical buildings. To the north of the city lies the ancient city with ruins of its acropolis and the theatre of the Roman era.
