New travel info system 'to help ferry passengers'

New travel info system 'to help ferry passengers'
01 December 2008
The system will benefit people using ferry services
A ferry operator has been involved in the launch of a new travel information system at Southampton airport that is set to offer a benefit to people using local ferry services.

The system, which is the first of its kind in an airport in the UK, provides live updates on ferry services to and from Southampton, as well as news on road and rail networks.

Jonathan Green, sales and marketing director at Red Funnel, said the technology will prove useful for ferry passengers and could be replicated at sea terminals used by people travelling from the Isle of Wight.

"Southampton airport is a key gateway to the Isle of Wight, making the system especially useful for passengers travelling by ferry," he said.

"We are aiming to have a similar system installed at the ferry terminals for passengers travelling to the airport from the island."

Red Funnel sails from Southampton to the port of Cowes on the Isle of Wight.

Alternative routes to the island are provided by Wightlink, which offers services from Lymington to Yarmouth and from Portsmouth to Fishbourne and Ryde.
