Plane problems top list of traveller irritations | | | | 27 November 2008 | The ease and comfort of ferry travel has been highlighted by a new survey on the things that holidaymakers find most irritating, with problems encountered on planes dominating the list.
With nearly a third (31 per cent) of the vote, having the back of one's seat kicked by children was found to be the most annoying aspect of travelling.
The survey, which was conducted by online travel community TripAdvisor and included nearly 9,000 people, found that people who excessively recline their seats is the major irritation for a fifth (21 per cent) of people.
Fellow passengers having loud mobile phone conversations (16 per cent), people who block the aisle while stowing their bags (12 per cent) and armrest-hoggers (four per cent) also appear to irk regular travellers.
TripAdvisor spokesman Luke Fredberg said: "The notion of 'travelling for pleasure' can be a total farce when you're surrounded by passengers who seem intent on making their presence felt be it with a boot in the back, or an elbow in the ribs."
The survey also questioned people on the tourists they are most annoyed by on holiday, concluding that American travellers are the most unpopular with 18 per cent of the vote. |
