LIVERPOOL BIRKENHEAD FERRY PORT OVERVIEW

Birkenhead is a town in Merseyside on the Wirral peninsula, very close to the city of Liverpool and part of the Liverpool Port facility. The Twelve Quays Terminal offer both passenger and freight services to Belfast in Northern Ireland and Dublin in the Republic of Ireland.

The name Birkenhead is thought to come from the Old English term `bircen' meaning birch tree of which many once grew in this area.

Among the attractions in and around Birkenhead there are: Birkenhead Park, with its two beautiful lakes and ornate "Swiss Bridge"; Birkenhead and St. Mary's Tower; Bidston Windmill and Flaybrick Memorial Gardens.

The nearest airport is the John Lennon Airport in Liverpool, approximately 8 miles from Birkenhead.

The new and ultra-modern Twelve Quays River Terminal at Liverpool Birkenhead offers lots of facilities, such as a check-in hall, covered check-in areas for vehicles, cafeteria and lounge, separate rest area and showers for haulage drivers, and drop off/pick-up points for buses & taxis and an ample free parking.

By Car
From the South follow the M53 to J1 and take the A554. Follow the signs to Twelve Quays River Terminal. From Liverpool take the river crossing to Birkenhead and then follow signs as above.

By Rail
Hamilton Square Station in Hamilton Street is approximately 5 minutes away from the ferry terminal.

By Coach/Bus
The nearest coach drop-off stop for the ferry terminal is at the Europa Boulevard, opposite Conway Park station, Birkenhead approximately 10 minutes away.
