The services at Cavo port are basic, but most of the necessary amenities can be found within the village, a short walk away from the port.
The village port of Cavo is the situated on the north eastern tip of the Isle of Elba, just a 15 minute hydrofoil journey away from the mainland port of Piombinom, by far the shortest crossing to the mainland. The small town has several restaurants and for those who are interested in the history of the island, there are the remains of a Roman villa not far out of the town accessible by a delightlful sea-front walk.
Although Elba is well known for its history (it was the Island to which Napoleon was famously banished and was also an important industrial mining island from ancient times right up until the end of the Second World War), what is perhaps less known, though no less exciting, is its rich cuisine. The island is widely acknowledged to have an outstanding range of types of bread, all served with a wide variety of sea food. Also well worth a taste is the Lemoncino, the local lemon liquor. Finally, what better way to bring a splash of the Italian diet into your life than the local delicacy of tomato and bread salad.
