We my cousin and I - 2 sixty year old guys!) anticipated a rough crossing, given it was 17 hours and in the middle of February, but it was great - very smooth, comfortable and trouble free. We had a cabin which allowed us to sleep through the night. The cafe/lounge was pretty basic, and the coffee very expensive, but we had a pleasant crossing and a very good start to our long journey to Italy. 10.0
We had a wonderful time on the ferry. The staff and crew were friendly and helpful. The cabin was very comfortable - nice hot shower, too. Everything was very clean and fresh. Celtic Link Ferries took good care of us from checking in to checking out of the terminals. The shuttle driver even gave us some good suggestions for our visit. Traveling this way was a nice relaxing way to begin our visit to Ireland. 6.6
My wife, my six children and I made the crossing to attend a wedding and have a few days holiday whilst there. Whilst I cannot fault the ferry too much it is very apparent that the route is catered towards the freight traffic. There is a small play area for the kids but not a lot else. As mine are all under 12 this made the 17 hour crossing very long. There was a cinema and we did use it on the way out for the older three. We could not on the way back as the scheduling of the films meant that the 15 rated film was put on at 8pm and the U at 10pm. I would have thought that it would be better the other way round as we were after all a captive audience after all! Food was ok and staff there very ameniable to the younger ones sharing etc. I did think however that 2 Euros for a coffee from a vending machine was a bit over the top especially as there was no other option. If you get the chance do not go onto deck 6 for the parking as it took over an hour to get off as they get all the freight off first. Overall the journey was fine and the staff were very willing to help where possible. 9.8
This was our first trip with Celtic Link Ferries and we were delighted with the service and comfort on board. The cabin was roomy, the shower good and the beds comfortable. The staff were courteous and friendly and there was plenty of room in the public areas. Even those passengers who were travelling without cabin accommodation were well looked after, with comfortable seating and blankets available. My only slightly negative comment would be regarding the dinner menu. My main course should have been an Irish stew but this seemed to have been 'tweaked' with other non-Irish ingredients such as peppers and included a lot of vinegar which made the dish taste very sour. The servings were large, but I was unable to eat more than a few mouthfuls of this food. I'd been looking forward to a real Irish stew but it seemed like the chef was trying to cater for Irish and Continental tastes in the same dish, and this just didn't work. A great trip, however, and I have no hesitation in recommending Celtic Link Ferries to other travellers. |
