About Cesme

Cesme meaning "fountain" in Turkish probably derives its name from the number of Ottoman fountains found in the area. Cesme with its wonderful serene beaches, clear blue waters and lush cultivated fields dotted around the coast is a popular holiday destination amongst visitors from Scandinavia, other Turkish cities, the Greeks and the British.

Cesme is a vibrant mixture of history and modernity. Apart from the beautiful beach of Ilica, the town of Cesme is dominated by two of the most important constructions in the town's history - one of them is the 14th century Genoese fortress later enlarged and fortified by the Ottomans which has now been turned into a weapons museum and the other one is the 16th century caravanserai built by Emperor Süleyman the magnificent which has now been turned into a chic boutique hotel.

By day Cesme offers some of the most exquisite panoramic views and by night it is transformed into fun filled town with a number of waterfront bars and restaurants offering discos etc. There is no shortage of good food in Cesme; you will find many good restaurants along the promenade or in the main square. While in Cesme, don't forget to try Cesme's famous mastic flavoured ice-cream. Cesme is also famous for its thermal springs which can be found in many parts of the town.
