    • Dover to Calais with P&O Ferries

Excellent outbound journey. Whilst in Belgium we were hit by Storm Angus. Fully expected ferries to be cancelled but we turned up on time and immediately boarded a delayed earlier ferry. This set off within half an hour and we had a fairly pleasant crossing. Very windy and quite a swell but the captain said to remain seated indoors which seemed to help. About an hours delay on entering Dover due to a broken down ship, so we eventually disembarqued about 90 mins later than we originally predicted. Staff in France gave out on board discount vouchers for coffee and food which was nice.

Mont St Michel not as good as the Normandie
    • Portsmouth to Caen with Brittany Ferries

Second trip on the Pompey-Caen route and on both occasions took the overnight ferry out, without a cabin. The recling seats on the Normandie are very good but the ones on the Mont St michel are awful. If you want a semi-decent one you have to pay extra. Other than that, for me it's a great crossing but normally too expensive through the high season. But at £109 return I couldn't complain - 45 minute drive in the UK and 1.25 hours in France. Ideal.
