Cuxhaven ferry port is an important trading link for Germany, with a passenger ferry connecting the port with Harwich in the UK coupled with excellent rail and road links to the rest of Europe.
Cuxhaven is a quiet little seaside town with tourism being the major source of income apart from the fishing industry. The beautiful sandy beaches draw the crowd to Cuxhaven. Water recedes dramatically during low tide which makes a stroll on the seaside much more enjoyable.
Well worth a visit are the fish mongers and restaurants in the auction rooms and around the harbour, which offer fish straight off the boat. Cuxhaven city centre has a variety of interesting shops to choose from.
Some of the other interesting sites to visit are the Alte Liebe (a former quay turned into a viewing platform to watch the ships), Schloß Ritzebüttel (a castle) and the Kugelbake (a geographical point where river Elbe ends).
