Dover Ferry Port Overview

The Dover Ferry Port is in the English county of Kent and is steeped in maritime history. The port faces France across the Channel and is the UK's closest geographic point to the French port of Calais. Its close proximity to the Continent makes Dover Ferry Port one of the busiest Cross-Channel ports in Europe.

Dover Ferry Port has all the facilities you would expect from a very busy harbour. It has excellent modern transport links and an award winning customer service. The Port of Dover deals with 18 million passengers each year.

If you are catching a ferry from Dover, then look out for the Dover Castle, one of the largest castles in the country, whose origins can be traced back to the Iron Age. You will also be able to see a stunning Anglo-Saxon Church and a Roman Lighthouse, still standing at its original height after approximately 2000 years. Other places of interest include the Admiralty Pier Turret, the Western Heights, Fort Burgoyne, Russell Gardens and the Transport Museum.

Dover is also obviously famous for its stunning White Cliffs. These worldly-known majestic cliffs are considered `The most popular stretch of the UK's coastline' (according to a National Trust Survey) and have been recently voted one of Britain's best loved icons.
