Genoa to Barcellona with Grandi Navi Veloci
We travelled in late September. Half the ship was closed off, although it was hot the swimming pool was empty and full of rubbish and the area around it was a smoking zone. You can go outside but there is nothing to sit on but the deck. Most of the passengers were truck drivers heading to Algiers, who spent the trip drinking and smoking. There was no quiet place anywhere on board. The "Majestic" isn't very; avoid.
Genoa to Barcellona with Grandi Navi Veloci
The ferry arrived at the genoa dock a couple hours late. this means when we got to Barcellona 3 hours late meaning our afternoon to tour the town was killed. everything on the boat was closed including the one main place you would want to sit and that is the main forward lounge. Once we got on the boat we had 30 mins before the cafe was closed the food had been sitting for a while and not very good. The cabin was not real clean. I am not sure how much of this was just due to the ferry being late and the crew not having enough time to clean. this was going to be one of the high points of our European trip. instead it was by far the lowest point.
Palermo to Genoa with Grandi Navi Veloci
I have travelled a few times on this route usualy from Genoa to Palermo and on another ship belonging to Grandi Navi (cant remember the name) and found the facilities on the ship to be great and well kept. This trip from Palermo to Genoa, there was only one resteraunt open for limited times with warm not hot food slopped onto your plate and no hot drinks ie tea/coffee available and the price for me for one meal and a small coke was over 15 euros. Gym closed, pool closed, tiny shop. For some reason this ship was crammed with obnoxiously loud and inconsiderate German pensioners and french or swiss on coach trips who think nothing of walking up and down the corridors by the cabins all through the night in groups laughing and chatting excitedly at the top of their voices when people are trying to sleep. Some multilingual signs requesting respect and silence at night in these areas would be a good idea. Apart from the above grandi navi still remains a cheap and useful way to get between Genoa and Palermo.
