Still the best way to get to and from Orkney

Gills Bay to St Margarets Hope with Pentland Ferries

A short ferry crossing to Orkney, at a good price, and in reasonable comfort. What more can you ask? We have tried all the alternatives, and while the other boats are more luxurious, you do not need cruise-line comfort on a 75 minute crossing! This is the route for us.

Gills Bay to St Margarets Hope with Pentland Ferries

This trip is worth it if only to watch the crew shoehorn more vehicles than you would think possible onto the car deck. Seating inside is warm and comfortable and deck seating gives good views.

Gills Bay to St Margarets Hope with Pentland Ferries

Used the Gills Bay/St. Margarets Hope service several times now, though first time on the "Pentalina". Crossing was smooth and just an hour. Didn't use the onboard catering on either crossing (hence a 3 star 'neutral' rating), but if up to the same standard as their previous vessels it was a decent bacon roll and cuppa! Have recommended this service to friends who have visited Orkney and they had a good experience too. Would use this service again when we next travel to Orkney.
