Seysdisfjordur to Hirtshals with Smyril Lines

The food is not good for the price :(, but the journey is great.

Hirtshals to Seysdisfjordur with Smyril Lines

The cost of booking through aferry was £80 cheaper than booking direct. The service was very quick and easy. Arrival at Hirtshals was a little confusing due to Fjordline and Smyril using the same check-in facilities. Follow the signs, the foot passengers go to the terminal, car passengers line up at the check-in booths (huts). You are given a ticket which opens the doors to your cabin or couchette. After check-in car passengers are asked to walk to the terminal to board while the drivers load the vehicle. Make sure that the make a note of where you are parked, it can be a little difficult to find the car with so many packed in. Couchettes are at the back of the boat, levels 2. They are a little awkward to find. The bunks are tightly packed and warm. Take a sleeping bag. The shower and toilet facilities are basic but clean. Onboard there is a cinema, gym, cafe, cafeteria, restaurants, duty free shop, gaming machines and currency exchange (rate not too good). Euro accepted onboard but change given in Danish Krona. Take a book! Do not take dairy products into Iceland..Customs do check for it. Then all I can say is get out of the ferry and drive the beautiful north road..

Emma B, With Friends - 06/07/2011

Hirtshals to Seysdisfjordur with Smyril Lines

I really liked the onboard sauna and gym - they weren't too busy and gave me something to do when I dind't want to sit up on deck during the long journey. My friend enjoyed the cinema and, apart from the lack of vegan food on board and places to eat your own food (other than your room) the only problem we had was the key for our couchette rarely worked easily. Staff were really friendly and helpful and always seemed happy to help. Thanks!
