Heysham to Isle of Man with Isle of Man Steam Packet
Although the vessel is very comfortable and is probably the most reliable ship that the I.O.M.S.P. have ever had, the performance is stuck very firmly in a time warp. At seventeen and a half knots it compares unfavourably with the cross channel ferries which are bigger, heavier and cruise at about five knots quicker. There used to be a ship called the Viking which ran the service from Fleetwood and was scrapped about fifty years ago, It was built before World War Two and was faster than the modern ferry from Heysham. In the twenty first century, passengers should be able to expect a ferry that can keep up with the ferries of the same age run by other ferry companies.

The journey was very enjoyable, the vessel very comfortable and staff very helpful. I found the booking staff, in particular, extremely helpful with my rescheduling of my travel dates.
