About Gothenburg

Gothenburg is located at the mouth of River Göta älv and hence got the name Gothenburg. Its location helped Gothenburg to develop into a significant trade and shipping city in the Nordic countries. The sea, trade and industrial history of the city is evident in the cultural life of Gothenburg.

Gothenburg is scattered with a number of historic and cultural establishments. Gothenburg Museum of Art, Liseberg (largest amusement park in Scandinavia), Röhss Museum (sea and natural history museum) and Gothenburg Opera are just a few of the those.

Kungsportsavenyn, commonly known as Avenyn, "The Avenue", is the main boulevard with a total length of 1 kilometre; it stretches from the older part of Gothenburg to the Götaplatsen square, where the Gothenburg Museum of Art and several other cultural institutions are located.

While in Gothenburg, you can also visit the Southern Gothenburg Archipelago consisting of Älvsborg Fortress, Vinga and Styrsö islands. As a seafront destination, Gothenburg is famous for its fish dishes and world class eateries sporting Michelin stars along with various other affordable options.
