Karlshamn was originally intended to be the navy base of King Karl but it was later decided that Karlskrona would be a better choice and hence Karlshamn was left to look after itself which gave rise to various trades in the town such as manufacturing of alcoholic drinks, punsch, tobacco and snuff.
History and architecture in Karlshamn are well preserved and a visit to the old punsch factory, the silver forge, the art gallery, the printer's workshop where numerous card games are being printed since 1800's and the merchant's houses takes you back in time.
Some of the other interesting sights to visit are the naval museum in the town centre, Karl Gustav's church and Sweden's finest antique trading house situated in Skottsbergska garden. Karlsham's old harbour situated by the river Mieån is also well worth a visit.
