Kastelorizo Ferry Port Overview
Kastelorizo Ferry Port lies on the easternmost of the Dodecanese Islands in the South Mediterranean. Kastelorizo, officially known as "Megisti" has a total area of just 9.2 square kilometres and is the smallest of all the Dodecanese Islands. Kastelorizo lies halfway between Rhodes and the Turkish town Antalya.
Its advantageous geographical location, positioned Kastelorizo as the crossroads for trade between Europe, Middle East and Egypt since the ancient times which reflects in the island's prosperity.
Kastelorizo has a mountainous and rocky landscape, that in itself offers some of the most spectacular views and the whole town unfolds around the picturesque harbour in Kastelorizo where you can find unique architecture and colourful houses with wooden stair cases and balconies influenced by the town's history of Turkish and Italian occupations.
Although there are no beaches on Kastelorizo Island as such, there are plenty of wonderful beaches around the island. You can go on excursions by hiring boats available from the harbour.
Some of the impressive sites in and around the island are the stunning Blue Caves, a 14th century Castle of the Knights, well preserved stone-hewed Lycean tomb and various small but interesting archaeological museums depicting local culture.
Kastelorizo on the whole offers an unforgettable Greek Island holiday experience with some good places to stay and eat along with the splendid views.
GA Ferries offer various connections to other Greek destinations from Kastelorizo which you can book easily and securely online with A Ferry UK.
