Newcastle port facilities

The Newcastle ferry terminal offers excellent facilities which include a cafe, Bureau de Change, bar, shop, ticket sales and enquiries, games arcade, hot & cold drinks vending machines, baby changing facilities, disabled access and toilets.

There is an Esso Service Station about a mile to the north in Front Street, Chirton, open 24 hours a day. Outside the main ferry terminal there is a secure car park, which is payable upon entry by either cash or cheque. Contact 0191 293 6263 for more information.

Getting to Newcastle

DFDS Seaways' ships sail from the International Ferry Terminal, Royal Quays, North Shields which is situated approximately 8 miles east of Newcastle City Centre and is signposted with the "International Ferry" symbol.

From the City Centre: Take the A1 towards Morpeth and then the A19 towards the Tyne Tunnel. On Approach to the tunnel, follow the International Ferry symbol onto the A187 towards North Shields. Continue along this road to the roundabout, take the second exit to the International Ferry Terminal, Royal Quays.

Passengers from the North: Head for the Tyne Tunnel via the A19, then follow directions as above. Passengers from the South: Approach via the A19 towards the Tyne Tunnel. Once through the tunnel join the A187 and proceed as above.

Please Note: Drivers approaching from the South should allow extra time during the summer months when the tunnel can be extremely busy.

Approximately 20 minutes away from the ferry terminal, in Neville Street, you will Newcastle Central station, which is well connected with the rest of the UK. There is a connecting bus service (shuttle bus no. 327) to the ferry terminal that departs 2 hours 30 minutes, and 1 hour 30 minutes prior to every ferry sailing. The fare is paid to the driver.

Close to the Central Railway Station you will find Newcastle Coach Station. Here you can take a shuttle bus to the ferry terminal.
