Absorb some culture on Amsterdam ferry breaks | | | | 29 June 2009 | Culture vultures will be catching ferries to Amsterdam from Newcastle in August to visit the Dutch capital's Uitmarkt festival.
This event serves as the official opening of Amsterdam's cultural season. This year, it will run from August 28th to 30th.
Visitors will be able to see hundreds of previews of theatre shows, operas, live music, dance performances and more at venues around the city such as Dam, Nieuwmarkt and Waterlooplein.
Up to half a million people regularly descend on Amsterdam for the Uitmarkt, which is completely free to attend.
Visitors will find most festival events in the Eastern Harbour area of the city. There is an international service point in the centre of the festival arena that provides English language guides.
DFDS Seaways provides ferries to Amsterdam from Newcastle, with daily departures from the UK at 17:00.
Travellers can also use the Harwich to Hook of Holland ferry route operated by Stena Line or sail from Hull to Rotterdam with P&O Ferries.
