Travellers planning to take ferries to France and head south to explore Provence this summer will have the opportunity to enjoy some opera in the region.
The 2010 Choregies d'Orange festival will begin on July 15th and conclude on August 7th.
All performances will be staged at the Theatre Antique, a Roman amphitheatre located in the small Provence town of Orange.
One of the easiest ways for holidaymakers to begin their journey is to travel on the
Dover to Calais ferry route, which is served by
P&O Ferries and
SeaFrance, and head south.
Visitors to Orange will be able to see the festival get underway with an opening performance of Giacomo Puccini's Tosca on July 15th, which will be followed by another showing on July 18th.
Charles Gounod's Mireille also appears on this year's programme on August 4th and 7th, while soprano Natalie Dessay and tenor Juan Diego Florez will give vocal performances on July 17th.
The Orchestre National de Bordeaux-Aquitaine will play renditions of pieces by Tchaikovsky at the Theatre Antique on August 6th.
Holidaymakers can also reach France by taking
ferries from Portsmouth to Le Havre with
LD Lines, while
Brittany Ferries offers services to Cherbourg, Caen and St Malo from Portsmouth.
