Aferry.co.uk was among the winners at the grand final of this year's World Travel Awards, an event that has been described by the Wall Street Journal as the travel industry's Oscars.
The site, which provides access to services operated by companies such as
Stena Line,
SeaFrance,
P&O Ferries and
Norfolkline/
DFDS Seaways, was named the world's leading ferry website at the awards ceremony at London's Grosvenor House Hotel earlier this month.
A number of recent innovations contributed to Aferry.co.uk receiving the accolade, such as the introduction of the Find a Ferry iPhone app and the development of new, user-friendly online booking systems.
Kirsty Laifa, a spokeswoman for the site, said: "Our excellent and loyal customers have helped build our business to the market leader position we have today by giving us regular and honest feedback about the things that work, and those that do not.
"Many of the key developments to Aferry.co.uk are in direct response to our customers' feedback, which is why this award is really special to us."
She went on to say that the company will "work harder than ever" to make ferry travel as easy as possible and a viable alternative to flying.
Travellers planning a trip to the continent can book crossings on the
Dover to Calais ferry route through Aferry.co.uk, while those heading to Ireland can arrange
ferries from Holyhead to Dublin or from Fishguard or Pembroke to Rosslare.
