Amsterdam exhibits seminal photographer

Holidaymakers planning to catch cheap ferries to Amsterdam this year may be interested in attending an exhibition dedicated to the multi-award-winning photographer Richard Avedon.

The extensive display will be open at the Amsterdam Photography Museum from February 13th to May 13th.

During a career spanning more than 50 years, Avedon worked for magazines including Harper's Bazaar, Vogue and the New Yorker, receiving awards including the Royal Photographic Society 150th Anniversary Medal along the way.

He captured iconic images of figures including Marilyn Monroe, the Beatles, Andy Warhol and former US president Dwight Eisenhower.

Ferry travellers who visit the exhibition at the Amsterdam Photography Museum will be able to see more than 200 of Avedon's shots, which offer a chronological exploration of his distinguished career.

The museum also boasts a permanent collection including photographs by Sir Cecil Beaton, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Mitch Epstein and many others.

Direct ferry crossings to Amsterdam are provided by DFDS Seaways from Newcastle, while P&O Ferries sails from Hull to Rotterdam and Stena Line operates a route from Harwich to Hook of Holland.
