Amsterdam ferry breaks recommended for St Patrick's Day

DFDS Seaways has promoted its Newcastle to Amsterdam ferry service as a unique way to mark St Patrick's Day this year.

The company said that its themed mini-cruise to Amsterdam will add a "touch of quirkiness" to any celebration of the occasion.

Setting off from Newcastle on March 20th, the special service will feature plenty of Irish-themed entertainment onboard, including live performances by Brogue, a Celtic band.

Passengers will also be able to enter a quiz, participate in Irish dancing competitions and take advantage of special offers at the bar.

Upon arrival in the Dutch capital, visitors can see the local sights or absorb some culture at attractions such as the Van Gogh Museum.

DFDS Seaways operates daily crossings on the Newcastle to Amsterdam ferry route, with departures from the British port at 17:00.

The company recently announced that 2009 was the most successful year to date for the service, with a total of 531,000 passengers carried.
