Cross-channel ferry services could again prove popular at the beginning of next week as industrial action in Belgium is set to force the cancellation of all Eurostar services between the UK and Brussels.
A 24-hour general strike in Belgium will commence at 22:00 local time on October 5th, meaning that Brussels Midi station and the rest of the national rail network will be closed the following day.
Owing to the constraints of Eurostar's amended timetable following the Channel Tunnel fire, the operator will not be able to offer a service between the UK and Lille on October 6th.
The company advised all passengers planning to travel between the UK and Brussels or Lille on October 6th to change their arrangements.
Alternative options for travellers include the
TransEuropa Ferries service between Ramsgate and Ostend, which departs the UK three times a day at 07:00, 13:30 and 18:30.
Customers can also catch ferries from Dover to Calais or Dunkerque and drive across the border into Belgium.
