A 24-hour general strike will lead to the suspension of Eurostar services to Brussels on November 5th, meaning that ferries to Belgium could prove a useful travel option for people heading to the continent.
The industrial action in Belgium will commence at 22:00 local time on November 4th and come to an end at the same time the following day.
Brussels Midi station and the rest of the country's rail network will be closed, leading Eurostar to recommend that passengers who were planning to take the train to the capital should change their arrangements.
Possible alternatives include the Ramsgate to Ostend ferry service provided by
TransEuropa Ferries, while ferries to Zeebrugge are available from Rosyth with
Norfolkline and from Hull with P&O Ferries.
Eurostar also confirmed that, because Lille is part of the London to Brussels route, a modified timetable of services to the French city will be in place.
People who would rather travel by sea to get to France can use the Dover to Boulogne ferry route served by
LD Lines or take ferries to Calais from Dover with P&O Ferries or
Seafrance.
