People planning to catch
ferries from Portsmouth to Bilbao for Easter getaways this year will be able to visit the Spanish city's Guggenheim Museum to see an exhibition dedicated to Takashi Murakami.
The showcase of work by Murakami, who is one of the most influential modern artists to come out of Japan, will be open until May 31st.
Born in Tokyo in 1962, Murakami was trained in 'nihonga', a traditional Japanese painting style, and went on to graduate from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music in 1993.
The artist is associated with modern Japanese culture through his work in anime and manga comic books, but also references Buddhist imagery, Zen painting and other traditional art-forms in his work.
Organised by the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the exhibition at the Guggenheim Bilbao features more than 90 artworks by Murakami, including paintings, sculpture, installations and film.
