Portsmouth to Dunkerque ferry services are likely to prove popular with lovers of history and art as the two come together for a spectacular exhibition at Versailles at the start of September.
Although the palace, which is located just to the south-west of Paris, is already one of the most popular tourist attractions in the whole of France, visitor numbers are expected to soar from September 5th as the former residence of Louis XIV plays host to an ambitious new exhibition by acclaimed modern artist Xavier Veilhan.
The show will see the Paris-based artist's work displayed throughout the palace's cobbled courtyards and royal gardens, bringing together the past and the present in a beautiful and historic setting.
Among the highlights of the new exhibition will be 'Le Carrosse', the artist's interpretation of the Sun King's luxurious horse-drawn carriage, which will take pride of place in the main Royal Courtyard.
The Xavier Veilhan exhibition will be on at Versailles until December 13th, though it will not be open to the public on Mondays.
The UNESCO World Heritage Site-listed Palace of Versailles is located just 20 kilometres from the heart of Paris, making it an ideal day-trip destination for those tourists taking ferries to France.
