A great reason to book
ferries from Newcastle to Amsterdam in the New Year is Floriade 2012, which is one of the country's biggest and most successful events.
More than 100 exhibitors will gather in the Venlo region of the country in what is one of the largest horticultural areas in the whole of Europe.
Next year's show will run from April 5th - October 7th, giving visitors the chance to visit a range of stalls as well as sample some fine cuisine at the expo's many restaurants.
Each day throughout the festival, there will be a programme of music, literature, dance, visual art and theatre from all over the world.
Tourists will never find themselves short of things to do, as the Floriade Park spans 66 hectares and covers five uniquely themed worlds.
Floriade has been held in the Netherlands every ten years since 1972, with the last outing being inspired by the theme "feel the art of nature".
