Book ferries to see some of the world's top travel hotspots

Travellers planning to arrange ferry breaks from the UK this year will have the opportunity to visit some destinations that have been voted among the best in the world.

TripAdvisor, the world's largest travel community, announced that Monte Carlo had been voted the world's top destination in its Travellers' Choice 2010 awards.

Located in the city-state of Monaco, which is surrounded on three sides by France, Monte Carlo is famous for attractions including its glamorous casino, beaches and a spectacular seafront location.

Holidaymakers interested in seeing the destination can take ferries from Dover to Calais with P&O Ferries or Seafrance and head south towards the Mediterranean coast.

All of the top five destinations in the TripAdvisor awards survey are located in Europe.

Heidelberg, Germany and Salzburg, Austria completed the top three, followed by Florence, Italy and Lucerne, Switzerland.

Holidaymakers could also be interested in taking ferries from Newcastle to Amsterdam to see the destination that was ranked 12th in the world.

TripAdvisor described Amsterdam as a "charming city" and recommended attractions including the canals, bridges and the Anne Frank House.
