Brest prepares for Christmas fair | | | | 27 October 2008 | Anybody who fancies the idea of exploring one of Europe's famous Christmas markets this year should catch a cheap ferry to Brittany in December and head to the town of Brest.
From December 1st to 24th, the annual Christmas fair will be held in the Place de la Liberte in Brest.
A visit to this market provides an ideal opportunity to pick up some unusual gifts and souvenirs, with more than 40 stallholders set to attend, showcasing a broad variety of arts, crafts and other creations.
There will be plenty of mulled wine, or 'vin chaud', on offer to help visitors stay warm, while the local choral society will provide a festive atmosphere with recitals of popular carols.
Brest is famous for its maritime associations and boasts a number of attractions enabling visitors to explore the town's heritage, including the Tour Tanguy, which hosts a permanent exhibition on local history.
Brittany Ferries provides ferry crossings from Plymouth to Roscoff and from Portsmouth to St Malo, while Irish Ferries sails from Rosslare to the nearby port of Cherbourg. |
