More British travellers could be embarking on ferry breaks in Scotland this year following the launch of a major tourism initiative.
VisitScotland announced that its £1 million Perfect Day campaign is expected to reach some 36 million people in the UK, making it the agency's biggest domestic tourism promotion to date.
Cinema and television advertisements will be broadcast to encourage British holidaymakers to consider Scotland as an alternative to European destinations, meaning they will not have to worry about the unfavourable exchange rate.
The initiative will promote unusual activities that can be enjoyed in Scotland such as cruising along the country's west coast and taking landscape photography tours.
Tourism minister Jim Mather said: "This is the biggest domestic tourism drive VisitScotland has ever launched and we want to showcase the best of what Scotland has to offer to tourists right across the UK."
People travelling from Northern Ireland can catch
ferries from Belfast to Stranraer with Stena Line or use the Larne to Troon ferry service provided by P&O Ferries.
NorthLink Ferries offers crossings from Aberdeen to Kirkwall and Stromness for travellers interested in visiting the Orkney and Shetland islands.
