British tourism 'to be boosted by Olympics'

British tourism 'to be boosted by Olympics'
UK tourism is set for a huge boost from the Olympic Games, particularly due to the opening ceremony.

A survey by TripAdvisor.com found 56 per cent of Britons believe this will have helped bring more tourists to the UK.

TripAdvisor spokesperson Emma Shaw said: "After such a spectacular opening ceremony, it seems most Brits are hopeful this will drive overseas interest and have a positive effect on UK tourism."

People crossing on ferries from Amsterdam to Newcastle may be interested in the industrial heritage of the north of England, with this being focused on in the historic elements of the show.

Although the main concentration has been on London itself, other places in the UK have hosted events, with Newcastle being one of the football venues, along with Glasgow, Manchester, Cardiff and Coventry.

Weymouth in Dorset is another out-of-London venue featuring action, as it has hosted sailing events.
