Britons could be ready to set sail on ferry breaks in 2010.
A new study by simonseeks.com has found that while 2009 was the year of the staycation, holidaymakers are keen to head abroad in the next 12 months.
The research indicated that this was the case for 56 per cent of participants.
Simon Nixon, founder of simonseeks.com, commented that the study shows that those who did not go overseas last year are particularly eager to do so in 2010.
He added: "Staycation was the buzz word of 2009 but it seems that 2010 is will be more about a compromise culture, with people giving up short terms benefits to ensure they can afford that holiday abroad."
The study also uncovered that many Brits are hoping to cut the amount of money they spend on holidays in 2010, which could result in high demand for ferry breaks.
Holidaymakers keen to visit Spain in 2010 can do so thanks to trips run by P&O
Ferries from Portsmouth to Bilbao or Brittany Ferrries' Portsmouth and Plymouth services.
