British travellers are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with air travel, according to a new survey, suggesting that ferries could prove a more popular option this year.
Research company BDRC Continental carried out a poll which found that 70 per cent of British adults are likely to book a holiday in the UK in 2010, while 31 per cent believe the country is becoming more appealing as a travel destination.
Among those who said the UK is improving as a holiday hotspot, 41 per cent said they prefer the destination as they are fed up with air travel.
This proportion represents a significant increase on the figure of 29 per cent recorded in 2009.
Steve Mills, director of the tourism team at BDRC Continental, said: "The UK holiday industry stumbled upon a huge opportunity in 2009 to demonstrate what it can offer to a lost generation of holidaymakers.
"The good news is more and more people are deciding to holiday at home again this year and are enjoying re-discovering what's on their own doorstep."
People planning to take a holiday in the UK this year can make use of
Condor Ferries' Jersey and Guernsey ferry services, or possibly take a ferry to the Isle of Wight with
Wightlink.
