People setting off on their holidays on cross-Channel ferries were among those who contributed to an increase in demand for euros this summer.
According to the Post Office, sales of the euro rose by 3.2 per cent in June and July compared to the same two months of 2007.
In 2008 to date, sales of euros have increased by a total of six per cent despite the currency reaching record high values against sterling, showing the consistent demand for ferry crossings and other trips to the continent.
Helen Warburton, head of travel for the Post Office, said: "The continuing growth in demand for euros shows that most holidaymakers are not deserting summer sun favourites like Spain, Greece and France."
A number of other currencies have also seen increasing demand this year, including the Norwegian krone, which cemented its place in the Post Office list of top ten selling currencies.
People planning trips to Europe this year can take advantage of ferry crossings with a number of companies, including P&O Ferries, SeaFrance and
Brittany Ferries, from British ports such as Dover, Portsmouth and Poole.
