Brittany Ferries has brought an end to its Barfleur Poole to Cherbourg service - but will still run a fastcat crossing.
The passenger crossing between the Dorset port and the destination in Normady was initially axed by the operator in March 2010, but then returned last year on a trial basis.
However, Brittany Ferries has now confirmed that the Barfleur service will be scrapped for good due to difficult operating conditions in the current economic climate.
Mike Bevens, group passenger commercial director at the company, said it had conducted "a thorough analysis of the potential revenue gain versus the additional costs of bringing Barfleur back".
He told the Bournemouth Echo: "The fact is the UK and European economic situation in 2012 is not at all positive."
The fastcat crossing will connect Poole and Cherbourg between May 19th and September 30th.
And Brittany Ferries recently announced plans to start a new Thursday night service offering
ferries from Plymouth to Roscoff from April 5th.
