Brittany Ferries 'has exciting plans' for 2009 | | | | 04 November 2008 | Brittany Ferries has announced some "exciting plans" for 2009 and said that it is "upbeat" about the coming year, despite the current problems in the global economy.
One of the highlights of the year will be the introduction in February of Armorique, a new luxury cruise ferry built specifically for the operator's route between Plymouth and Roscoff.
The £90 million state-of-the-art vessel has room for 1,500 passengers and more than 500 cars.
In March, Brittany Ferries will launch a new weekly service from Portsmouth to Santander in northern Spain using the flagship Pont Aven, which is described as "more like a cruise liner than a ferry".
Bretagne, another of the company's ships, is undergoing a £5 million upgrade this winter that will include the installation of flat-screen televisions in 50 cabins and refurbishment of one of the vessel's restaurants.
Managing director David Longden said: "Brittany Ferries has built a well-deserved reputation for the quality of its service and ships which is why we are continuing to innovate and invest during these difficult economic times.
"I am particularly enthusiastic about the new route to Spain as Portsmouth is easily accessible via an excellent road network for a huge number of people located in Greater London and the home counties." |
