Brittany Ferries has recommended the option of an autumn break for people hoping to get away from it all over the coming months.
The company said that there are "so many reasons" to take ferries to France or Spain over the autumn period.
Many destinations will still be enjoying good weather over the next month or two, while the countryside will be "blazing with colour" and beaches will be less crowded.
Brittany Ferries also highlighted the fact that travelling by sea can add a fun and memorable element to any trip abroad.
Christiane Barker, a spokeswoman for the ferry operator, said: "We're always on the lookout for ways of making the whole holiday experience as hassle-free and enjoyable as possible."
People interested in an autumn trip to France can catch ferries to St Malo, Caen or Cherbourg from Portsmouth or use the Roscoff ferry routes provided by
Brittany Ferries from Plymouth and Cork.
Those planning a visit to Spain can take ferries to Santander from either Portsmouth or Plymouth.
