Brittany Ferries has experienced high demand for its services to Spain this year despite the recent financial crisis, the company has revealed.
Travellers will be able to take ferries to Santander from Portsmouth and Plymouth with
Brittany Ferries throughout the year.
The company will be expanding its Spanish operations over the coming months, with the new Cap Finistere vessel set to boost capacity on the route from Portsmouth.
One of the main aims of the development is to fill the gap left by P&O Ferries, which is set to suspend its Bilbao ferry service in September.
David Longden, managing director of
Brittany Ferries, told the Southern Daily Echo: "Despite the recession, demand for the new Spanish route has exceeded our expectations and forward bookings for 2010 are strong.
"We believe this is because Portsmouth is very easy to get to by road, especially from the Home Counties. At the same time more and more people are discovering the unspoilt delights of northern Spain."
The Cap Finistere vessel arrived in Portsmouth for berthing trials this week and is set to undergo a refit before entering service.
