Travellers will be able to choose from more sailings on the Portsmouth to Santander ferry route next year when
Brittany Ferries adds a new vessel to its fleet.
The cruise ferry will operate two return crossings every week from March.
Passengers will therefore be able to choose from four weekly ferries to Santander from the UK with
Brittany Ferries - three from Portsmouth and one from Plymouth.
The company launched its Portsmouth to Santander ferry route in March 2009 and currently operates the service using its flagship, Pont Aven.
David Longden, managing director of
Brittany Ferries, said: "Despite the recession, demand for the new Spanish route has exceeded our expectations and forward bookings for 2010 are strong.
"We believe this is because Portsmouth is very easy to get to by road, especially from the Home Counties."
Brittany Ferries' new vessel will boast facilities including a swimming pool, restaurants, bars, a shopping area and a movie lounge.
The company also provides access to France via its regular ferries to Caen, Cherbourg, St Malo and Roscoff.
