Brittany Ferries has recently unveiled Armorique, its new luxury cruise-ferry, which will be fitted out next year ready to enter service in March 2009.
The vessel, which was launched in Helsinki, Finland, has been designed specifically to operate ferry crossings between Plymouth and the Breton port of Roscoff.
Coming at a cost of £90 million, the ship will have capacity for 1,500 passengers and more than 500 cars.
Brittany Ferries claims that Armorique, which is named after a national park in Brittany, will provide "exceptional levels of comfort and style" while keeping carbon emissions to a minimum.
David Longden, the company's managing director, said: "Unlike aircraft, each ship has its own character and Armorique is no exception.
"We take great care with the design and decor to provide our passengers with an environment which is both comfortable and stylish, and our designers have followed a theme that reflects the 'colours and space of Brittany' to give this ship a very modern feel."
Mr Longden added that one of the main luxuries of Armorique will be space, something that is at a premium when travelling by plane.
In addition to its service from Plymouth to Roscoff,
Brittany Ferries offers cross-Channel ferries from Poole to Cherbourg and from Portsmouth to Caen, Cherbourg and St Malo.
