The Belgian Tourist Office has announced that the dinosaur gallery at Brussels' Museum of Natural Sciences was commended at this year's British Guild of Travel Writers (BGTW) awards.
At a ceremony in London on November 9th, the attraction was the runner-up in the Globe Award category.
People taking ferry trips to Brussels have been able to visit the dinosaur gallery since 2007, when it reopened following a three-year restoration programme.
The exhibit includes a unique collection of iguanodon skeletons, which were discovered in a coalmine in Bernissart 130 years ago and date back some 120 million years.
Speaking about the accolade, Kareen Goldfeder of the Museum of Natural Sciences said: "We are absolutely delighted to have been nominated for such a prestigious award. This was totally unexpected and a real honour."
People planning ferry trips to Brussels can sail to the Belgian port of Zeebrugge from Hull with P&O Ferries or to Ostend from Ramsgate with
TransEuropa Ferries.
