Catch a Norfolkline ferry to diverse Dunkerque | | | | 19 August 2008 | If you are planning a trip away in the New Year and are unsure where to head then Dunkerque may be just the place.
Easily accessible via ferry crossings with Norfolkline, the city celebrates the start of the year with a huge festival which lasts for more than a month.
Visitors are invited to join in the fun which sees locals take to the streets to celebrate their heritage.
The festivities also include a fabulous parade through the centre of town where participants hold up a giant figure known as Reuze Papa.
He is surrounded by marching drummers and costumed carnavaleux, who carry coloured umbrellas and sing special carnival songs.
The festival is full of fun with amusing costumes and a party atmosphere throughout.
When the procession comes to a close, a Mass is held although those who feel the urge to carry on the party can do so at numerous venues holding special balls. |
