People in Ireland who are not still recuperating from their New Year's Eve exploits may be interested in catching cheap ferries to Scotland at the beginning of January to enjoy some seasonal concerts.
The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall will host the final two events in its Festive Concerts series at the beginning of the month before presenting its New Year Concert on January 5th.
An afternoon performance of Handel's Messiah, which will take place on January 2nd in 2009, has become something of a New Year tradition in Glasgow and is expected to prove as popular as ever next year.
On January 3rd, the Concert Hall will play host to a Viennese Gala Concert performed by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, which will include waltzes, polkas, arias and other pieces, many of which were composed by the great Johann Strauss.
The festive season will come to a grand conclusion on January 5th, when Cristian Mandeal, principal guest conductor of the Halle Orchestra, will lead the National Youth Orchestras of Scotland through a programme including works by Enesco and Prokofiev.
