People with an interest in the art and culture of the comic book can catch cheap ferries to Belgium in February next year to see a giant balloon parade that will be held in Brussels.
Scheduled to take place on February 28th, the procession is based on the famous Thanksgiving Day parade that is held in New York every year.
Visitors will be able to enjoy the spectacle of giant helium balloons in the shape of comic book characters and animals passing along a route from Brussels' North to South railway stations.
There will also be marching bands, local folklore groups and representatives of the city's fire brigade and police services.
The parade will serve as the opening event for the Brussels 2009 BD Comics Strip year a season of tourist events and activities all themed around comic book culture.
Brussels was the birthplace of characters including Tintin and the Smurfs and is also home to the Belgian Centre for Comic Strip Art, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2009.
