National tourism association VisitDenmark has published a run-down of the many events and festivals that holidaymakers will be able to see by taking cheap ferries to the Scandinavian country.
Travellers can start their trip by sailing with DFDS Seaways from Harwich to Esbjerg, a port on the west coast that offers a good starting point for an exploration of Denmark.
By taking a short drive, visitors can reach the city of Odense, which will be turned into a "fairy tale destination" this year by a number of different events.
Highlights include the Folk Festival between May 7th and 10th and the Hans Christian Andersen Parade between July 27th and August 8th, which will see excerpts of fairy stories performed by children.
North of Odense is Aarhus, which will host the AFIA Film Festival from March 17th to 22nd, followed by an event featuring three concerts by opera singers on the weekend of May 15th to 17th.
Holidaymakers who extend their trip further north can see Aalborg, which will host its traditional carnival between May 16th and 23rd, an event that attracts some 100,000 people every year and is one of the biggest annual celebrations in Denmark.
Travellers who want to continue exploring Scandinavia can make use of the network of ferry crossings available from Denmark, including a Stena Line service from Frederikshaven to Oslo in Norway.
