Catch cheap ferries to explore Denmark's markets | | | | 17 September 2008 | With the festive season approaching, holidaymakers will soon be able to catch cheap ferries to Denmark to explore the country's famous festive markets.
The city of Aalborg is well-known for its design, gourmet restaurants, shops and boutiques, and is easily reachable by car for people travelling from the port of Esbjerg.
Here, Christmas celebrations begin at the end of November, with Santa Claus sailing in from Greenland to entertain the children and open the traditional festive market in the Old Square.
The market sells items including ceramics, glassware and jewelleries, while many neighbouring galleries open up their workshops to visitors.
Aarhus, Denmark's second city, literally lights up during the Christmas period, giving visitors the chance to do some midnight shopping in areas such as the Latin Quarter, which boasts numerous boutiques selling art, fashion, interior design items and more.
Odense hosts a Christmas fair themed around one of its most famous cultural figures, Hans Christian Andersen, which takes place near the storyteller's house and museum and is visited by some of his best known characters, including the little match girl and the snow queen.
Brits can catch cheap ferries to Denmark with DFDS Seaways, which sails from Harwich to Esbjerg. |
