Before catching
ferries from Newcastle to Amsterdam later this month, why not join in with some of the city's Chinese New Year celebrations?
A day of free events and performances is planned on January 29th 2012 as the Year of the Dragon is welcomed in.
The streets in and around Chinatown will be alive with both the Chinese community and visitors to the city, as the King of the Beasts will take centre stage from 11:00-17:00 GMT.
Carol Bell, head of culture and major events at NewcastleGateshead Initiative, said that thousands of people are attracted to the festivities every year.
"Everything is free to attend and there's something to suit every age so it's a brilliant day out for all the family," she commented.
To mark the occasion, Bath Lane and Thornton Square will be transformed into a funfair and Chinese market.
Meanwhile, the Chinese Centre on Westgate Road gives the chance to try out Chinese calligraphy, card and calendar making, fortune telling and games.
