People preparing to head off on ski holidays in France will be able to visit the Grand Montets area in Chamonix from this week, the national tourist office has confirmed.
Following heavy snowfall in the resort, the Grand Montets skiing zone plans to open daily from December 6th.
Other Chamonix skiing areas, such as Brevent-Flegere and Balme, will open on December 20th, while the Aiguille du Midi cable car is expected to reopen on December 13th.
The French government tourist office said that the ski holiday season is already off to a "promising start", with abundant snowfall allowing many major resorts to open early.
In Les Portes du Soleil, 120cm of snow has been recorded at the top of the ski domain and the resorts of Chatel, Avoriaz and Les Gets opened partially last weekend.
Some ski holiday locations, including Val Thorens, Tignes and Les Deux Alpes, are already open and have begun to welcome winter holidaymakers.
